Position Summary
The Commodity Manager is responsible for coordinating purchasing activities with manufacturing, planning, and engineering departments to acquire inventory in a cost effective and timely manner.

  • Takes part in developing, implementing, and managing supplier contracts.
  • Measures and reports supplier performance metrics on a monthly basis, managing any actions accordingly.
  • Reviews and analyzes purchase requisitions.
  • Processes purchase requisitions, purchase change orders, and requests for quotes to suppliers. Responsible for procurement business system data input and integrity.
  • Participates in maximizing the procurement teams' changes, part parameters; quote table maintenance, supplier database information, error report analysis, and part number/supplier code information.
  • Performs cost analysis and volume planning for major commodities (e.g. materials, components, equipment and services).
  • Manages a Quarterly Business Review (QBR) with key suppliers.
  • Monitors the cost, schedule, and scope of assigned subcontracts to negotiate highest quality at best value.
  • Identifies new supply sources when vendors and suppliers are no longer competitive.
  • May recommend cost saving proposals including make-versus-buy analysis or alternative sourcing. Interacts closely with suppliers, QA, and supplier development to resolve quality issues.
  • Works with management to address all aspects of commodity management, including procurement support, commodity business plans, market trends assessment, pricing, and product availability.
  • Other applicable duties, as assigned or required.

Minimum Requirements

  • BS/BA Degree.
  • Five to ten (5 -10) years progressive purchasing experience, to include strategic purchasing and sourcing experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefer experience with hydraulics, electronics, and fabrication processes.

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and arms to perform repetitive motions; to sit, talk, and/or hear.
  • Standing or sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Required to work on concrete floors, wearing steel toe shoes and safety goggles, when required.
