Control Systems

Schilling’s control systems are designed to leverage common industrial design principles and apply the benefits to the subsea industry.  Control systems form an integral part of the ROV systems, and the modular controls technology that has been established for this application can be applied to any subsea system requiring data communications and control.

We have eliminated the complexity associated with traditional control systems that are commonly packaged in a one-atmosphere canister with many circuit boards and wiring harnesses.  Instead, we provide a simple, configurable communications node that leverages the Ethernet protocol.  The nodes can be configured with a standard series of interface modules that enable communication and control with all subsea sensors and actuation systems.

Utilizing gigabyte fiber optic communication channels, each node can contain up to 16 interface modules and be daisy-chained together, providing virtually limitless control application potential.  A typical ROV system utilizes up to five nodes, but it is possible to configure a system of several hundred.

System maintenance is entirely limited to the sub-system level, and does not require any component level diagnostics.  Additional diagnostic enhancements include the use of SeaNet connectors and cables which provide a visual indication of system integrity without having to break connections.  Maintenance can therefore be performed by all operations personnel without the need for specialist electronics or software skill sets.
